Ricky Gervais: The BrandLaureate Legendary Award

Award winning English comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, singer, and musician

Congratulations to Ricky Gervais, an English comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, singer, and musician, for winning The BrandLaureate Legendary Award.

Gervais is one of the world’s best-known comedians and multi-talented personality in the entertainment industry.

He was named the third most influential person in British culture in a 2004 poll for the BBC. In 2007 he was voted the 11th greatest stand-up comic on Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Stand-Ups, and in 2010,  he was in Time’s 100 list of the world’s most influential people.

Most of us will agree that the 50-year-old British funnyman has made this world a better place with his countless one-liners and other acerbic remarks on life, fame, and whatever else he chooses to focus his withering gaze upon.  Highlighted below are some of his famous one-liners:

“I’ve created an atmosphere where I’m a friend first, boss second. Probably entertainer third.” – as David Brent on season 1, episode 3 of the British Office

Initially, Gervais worked in the music industry, attempting a career as a pop star in the 1980s, as the singer of the new wave act Seona Dancing, and worked as the manager of the then-unknown band Suede before turning to comedy.

He appeared on The 11 O’Clock Show on Channel 4 between 1998 and 2000.

In 2000, he was given a Channel 4 talk show Meet Ricky Gervais, and achieved greater mainstream fame a year later with his BBC television series The Office, where he played the lead role of David Brent,  followed by the hit television show Extras in 2005.

“Trust, encouragement, reward, loyalty… satisfaction. That’s what I’m…you know. Trust people and they’ll be true to you. Treat them greatly, and they will show themselves to be great.” – as David Brent on season 2, episode 2 of the British Office

Following his success in TV,  he embarked on his own live stand-up tours, and later starred in Night at the Museum (2006), For Your Consideration (2006), Stardust (2007),  and Muppets Most Wanted (2014).

He has also performed on four stand-up comedy tours and written the Flanimals, a series of children’s books which is currently being developed into a movie.

“The truth doesn’t hurt. Whatever it is, it doesn’t hurt. It’s better to know the truth.” – Inside the Actors Studio, 2009

“You have options. You can either continue to be miserable or you can just stop being angry at everyone and accept the way things are. Allow yourself to live.” – Ghost Town, 2008

His hard work has paid off. Today, Gervais has won seven BAFTA Awards, three for his role as David Brent in The Office.

He is the first British actor to win three Golden Globes, five British Comedy Awards, two Emmy Awards, and the 2006 Rose d’Or, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.

Gervais also hosted the Golden Globe Awards in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016.

Indeed, Ricky Gervais is truly deserving of The BrandLaureate Award in recognition of his meritorious contribution to the entertainment industry.
