The Asia Pacific Brands Foundation is delighted to welcome Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dato’ Sri Haji Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, as the new patron of the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation (APBF). The 5th Prime Minister of Malaysia, who was accompanied by his wife Tun Jeanne Abdullah, also received The BrandLaureate Hall of Fame – Lifetime Achievement Brand ICON Leadership Award – Global Icon.
The 24K gold plated trophy and glass-frame certificate was presented to Tun Badawi by Chairman of The BrandLaureate YBhg Tan Sri Rainer Althoff, and President of The BrandLaureate DrKKJohan. The trophy which featured a clenched fist positioned at the heart, signifies commitment to responsibility and determination to build the Brand to its highest level, a timeless honour which befits the exemplary calibre of Tun Badawi.
The event was witnessed by about 900 guests, comprising Malaysia’s top corporate leaders, brand owners, and leading personalities at The BrandLaureate Best Brands Awards 2016-2017 gala dinner, at Hotel Majestic Kuala Lumpur on May 22, 2017.
The prestigious event also saw the President of The BrandLaureate DrKKJohan presenting Badawi’s wife, Tun Jeanne Abdullah with a glitter portrait, painted by artist, Meteor.
Organized by the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation (APBF), The BrandLaureate Best Brands Awards recognize brand leaders in a league of their own, whose achievements have contributed significantly to the development of their countries and communities.
Established in 2005, APBF, is the world’s premier branding foundation. As a trendsetter in branding with a difference, the foundation’s main objectives include promotion of brands, improving branding practices and inculcating good brand culture in business. The BrandLaureate, a sobriquet for brand excellence was set up to meet the said objectives of the APBF, and enables it to carry out its goals effectively.
Genial and soft-spoken, Tun Badawi served as the Prime Minister of Malaysia from 2003 to 2009. Affectionately known as Pak Lah, he was also recognised as “Father of Human Capital Development” for his efforts in promoting higher education in Malaysia, enhancing mindsets, and infusing ethical, moral and religious values.
During his administration, he implemented many new policies and programs, aimed at reforming Malaysia into a more productive and competitive nation. In 2014, he introduced the National Integrity Plan which emphasised the promotion of integrity in the civil service, and the development of Malaysia’s human capital through training, culture and education.
During his tenure, he also reformed Malaysia’s judiciary system by setting up the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to fight graft and other corrupt practices. He promoted the idea of Islam Hadhari, to develop a strong nation according to the tenets of Islam, and from an Islamic perspective in the economic, social, and political arena, while enhancing the quality of life for every citizen.
As President of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), Tun Badawi led the country by inculcating firm philosophies and the values of excellence and distinction to make Malaysia a strong and respected nation.
During the prestigious event, guests were also entertained by a string of top class performances, including singing sensation Dayang Nurfaizah, Akademi Fantasia winner Vince Chong, electric violinist Dennis Lau, vaudeville jazz band FAZZ, and an LED lion dance performance.
