WELCOME: Tan Sri Rainer Althoff

As the New Chairman of the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation

Welcome to our new Chairman.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Tan Sri Rainer Althoff as the new Chairman of the Asia Pacific Brands Foundation.

Tan Sri Althoff, who takes over from Tan Sri Dato Seri Dr Aseh Che Mat, has been a driving force in Malaysian business for decades.

Having sat on the Board of Directors of numerous business councils, task force, and organisations, he has helped numerous foreign businesses set their footprint in the Malaysia. The breadth and depth of Tan Sri Althoff’s  experience as the Chairman and CEO of multiple large corporations and global brands make him an ideal candidate for the role as Chairman of The BrandLaureate.

Tan Sri Althoff’s appointment coincides with a rapid growth and  development of the BrandLaureate, which celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year, and is poised for global expansion with its newly minted Special Edition World Awards launched in August 2015.

With an experience in the field of electrical engineering spanning more than 40 years, Tan Sri Althoff was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. from 1999 to 2009, and was the spokesperson for all Siemens operations and affiliate companies in Malaysia.

He was also Chairman of Nokia Siemens Networks Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. since February 2010, and was the Chairman of Nokia Networks Sdn. Bhd. since 2009.

 

CAREER

Tan Sri Althoff received his tertiary education at the Bergische University of Wuppertal in Germany, and graduated with a Master degree (Diploma) in Electronics and Electrical Engineering in 1969. He started his career as an engineer for the planning of transportation systems.

In 1983, he began to expand his professional portfolio internationally. He took over the position of Head of Sales in Mobile Networks Worldwide in 1991, actively developing the business in more than 40 countries.

From 1997, he directed the regional sales for Telecommunication Networks in Asia Pacific before being seconded to Kuala Lumpur on January 1999 to resume his previous position.

 

TOP POSITIONS

Tan Sri Althoff has been a Member of International Advisory Panel to the Board of Directors of CIMB Bank since 2009, and is a member of the  International Advisory Panel of CIMB Group Holdings Berhad.

He serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of ALC International Sdn Bhd since 2009. He has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Proton Holdings Bhd. since June 22, 2010.

He serves as a Director of Jatro Pte Ltd., Singapore and serves as a Member of Board of Jatro Waterland, Indonesia. He has been a Trustee of Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Malaysia since 2011.

Tan Sri Althoff was also Chairman of Coriant Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. since 2013, and has been an Independent Non-Executive Director of Top Glove Corporation Berhad since March 14, 2013, until now.

 

ASSOCIATIONS

Tan Sri Althoff also serves as the Vice President of the Rotary Club DiRaja of Kuala Lumpur and has been a member since 2001. He also serves as the Chairman of the German Leadership Network Association, Malaysia.

 

AWARDS

In 1999, Tan Sri Althoff received the prestigious Federal Service Cross (“Bundesverdienstkreuz”) from the President of the Federal Republic of Germany for his immense efforts and achievements to promote and support the German business abroad.

In 2007, he was conferred with the ‘Tan Sri’ title by the King of Malaysia in appreciation to his successful development of Malaysian-German relations. He also received the ‘Life Time Award’ from Technology Business Review in the same year.
