AT age 40, more than a decade ago, Aaron Sim was living a comfortable life, and he just wanted to retire with the same multi-national company he worked for, as he was enjoying a big pay check.
Then one day, while on a trip to the United States, he saw a long line of retirees lining up to collect their paychecks. They looked pitiful with shoulders slumped as they shuffled their feet. The sight perturbed and knocked some senses back to him.
Upon reflection, he said: “That’s not how I want to be when I retire, I don’t know why I didn’t see it before” but that experience shifted his mental perspective on what a “stable job” means, and prompted him to move swiftly in the opposite direction.
Today, Aaron is a successful businessman as the CEO and founder of Wealth Mentors, a successful training company which he founded with his wife Tracy in 2003, which has brought 8500 people closer to their dream of financial freedom, with the help of expert trainers like Mirriam MacWilliams (America’s Millionaire Trader), Skip Archimedes (The Miracle Man), and Derek Gehl (Serial Online Entrepreneur).
Ever since that day, Aaron has been fixated in his search for True Wealth – to awaken others to walk along the same path of freedom. He said: “I got fanatical about finding alternate ways to earn money, so I could retire early. After all, what’s the point of having the money to retire, but having no energy left to enjoy it?” He ended spending about RM300,000 traveling the world to learn from different wealth mentors and their success secrets, and it made sense, as the journey led him to transform his own life and his loved ones. And now he is passionate to impart his knowledge to help the masses through his first book “Wealthy by Choice” which was first published late last year.
“We believe that True Wealth is a holistic lifestyle, and not just a big number in your bank account. Our mission is to provide specialized and tailored trainings to enrich people’s lives, so they can experience more freedom, happiness, and peace of mind.”
Q. Talk about your company “Wealth Mentors” which has been around for more than a decade, how has it developed and grown over the years, and what is your “mission and passion” to help people make their financial breakthrough?
Ten years ago, we started offering trading and persuasion programs after discovering my first mentor, Mirriam McWilliams who showed me how to create a second income with only 30 minutes per day, and which eventually replaced my full-time income! Over the years, we added personal development and health programs in our courses, because we believe that True Wealth is a holistic lifestyle, and not just a big number in your bank account.
Our mission is to provide specialized and tailored trainings to enrich people’s lives, so they can experience more freedom, happiness, and peace of mind. Our tagline to “We Enrich Lives” is deliberately vast, because it means different things to different people. However, our experience tells us there are core domains that contribute to an enriching life experience such as personal fulfilment, spirituality, financial resources, health and relationships, and business success.
Q. Please talk about your first book “Wealthy by Choice”, which is now available in Amazon and Kindle. How did you come out with the title of your book, and what inspired your journey to become an author?
After 10 years in the business, and having learnt from some of the world’s top trainers, I felt I am now qualified to teach and inspire others through my own practical life experience to shorten their learning curve. And this has led me to write my first book, which was not an easy task in the beginning, as it took me about 5 years to finally start writing, with the help of a coach.
With this breakthrough, it took me six months to produce my first manuscript and another six months to design and edit my book. Although there are many books written about wealth-building from wealth gurus like Robert Kiyosaki to Anthony Robbins but mine covers three important pillars which most people miss when they start on their wealth-creation journey:
- Know your `Why’ for building wealth — Understand what drives you. Money itself cannot keep you warm on a park bench, and you can’t eat it. It is `what the money can do for you’ to help you and others that really matters. That means digging into your true `Why’ for building wealth.
- Understand your natural path to succeed — Follow your gut-feel. There are many ways to build wealth, but not all of them are right for you. You have to understand what vehicle will suit you best, which is important, because unless you enjoy the process of building wealth, and have a strong `Why’ — it is difficult to stay committed for the long-run.
- Wire your mind for action — Learn to implement successful wealth strategies. Be focused in your actions. Take small efforts towards your daily wealth goals. If you try too much at once, you may get burn out. Get the right guidance from a mentor to help you stick to your game plan.
Once you realise your natural strengths and motivation, finding the right vehicle to succeed becomes obvious. Each wealth vehicle has its pros and cons and require specific skill-set and knowledge.
In my book “Wealthy by Choice” once a person goes through the checklist, he can pick one of the wealth vehicles and focus on doing that until he gets results, before trying other methods. The key is to do one at a time, but you have to pick the one that works best for you and see it through to completion, before adding on to it.
Q: Moving ahead, what’s your prediction for 2016, and what are some of the `Wealth-programmes’ you will be sharing and promoting through Wealth Mentors?
For 2016, I’m excited to bring Marshall Thurber, the creator of the world renowned “Money and You” Program to Singapore and Malaysia to share his wealth building secrets using deep mindset strategies, and personal development knowledge to achieve bigger life breakthroughs and success. As for Wealth Mentors, this provides us a great opportunity to constantly improve our programmes, to add value, and serve our clients better.
