KUALA LUMPUR, 25th November 2015 – Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) officially launched eUsahawan, a digital transformation programme aimed at inspiring and providing exposure to Malaysian youths and micro-entrepreneurs to embrace and maximise digital entrepreneurship. The programme was officiated by Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak at the inaugural Daya eUsahawan 2015, which brought together students, educators and micro-entrepreneurs, under the theme ‘Daya Digital Pemacu Kejayaan’. The Daya eUsahawan 2015 convention immersed participants in the world of digital business through e-expert sharing, mentoring sessions and learning labs on digital capabilities.
The eUsahawan programme is an engagement and education initiative integrating digital entrepreneurship curriculum into major technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions across the nation, and further extended to local micro-entrepreneur communities via the adaptation of the training curriculum into a short course format. The programme is developed through strategic partnerships and collaboration with industry partners, with MDeC working closely with Jabatan Pendidikan Politeknik, Jabatan Pendidikan Kolej Komuniti, MARA, Association of Business Executives, eSentral, Celcom, Karangkraf and Lelong.my.
The eUsahawan curriculum is extended to two or three TVET agencies, including GIATMARA and Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara. By year 2020, MDeC hopes that eUsahawan would have extended to 15 TVET agencies and 463 centres nationwide, and expose more than 200,000 TVET students and micro-entrepreneurs to digital entrepreneurship.
The eUsahawan syllabus was tested this year with pilot projects, showing promising results. From July 2015, 147 campuses from 4 of the biggest TVET agencies have been involved in the eUsahawan pilot initiative. 423 lecturers have been trained as Master Trainers and 2,363 students have been taught the eUsahawan curriculum thus far. As a result of the eUsahawan initiative, 2,148 of those students cultivated an online presence while more than 78 per cent of them are already generating additional income via online presence.
The eUsahawan curriculum which was developed to support the rollout of the programme at TVET institusions has also been published as a textbook in printed version by Karangkraf and interactive e-book version by eSentral. These resources are available for purchase through eSentral’s mobile application (iOS, Android, Chrome, Win8 Desk, Win8 Phone) by micro-entrepreneur communities and the public, as reference to jumpstart their online business presence.
These students and their teachers, as well as the micro-entrepreneurs involved in the pilot projects were celebrated at Daya eUsahawan which was held at Dewan Tun Razak, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur from 25 – 26 November 2015. At the launch event, YAB Dato’ Sri Najib Razak handed out eUsahawan textbooks titled ‘Kuasai Perniagaan Internet’ as token of appreciation to the participating TVET agencies and industry partners.
